* Prior to beginning services it is important to verify benefits through your individual policy.
In March 2012, the state of Michigan passed an autism insurance reform bill that covers medically necessary services for individuals age 0-18 years with an autism spectrum disorder, including applied behavior analysis.
This law applies to any state funded insurance provider, including traditional insurance certificates and HMOs. Self-funded policies however, are federally funded and are therefore not required to follow state law although many self-funded companies have opted in to autism benefits. It can often be difficult to tell from your insurance card whether your plan is self-funded. We suggest calling your provider directly to find out for sure.
